This year I am doing chemistry research with Dr. Matthew Zwier at Drake University. This research does not focus on ALS or other neurodegenerative diseases. I wanted to branch out and try different areas of research and work with different faculty members to prepare me for my future as an ALS researcher. I will not be working with brains this school year, but I will learn many tools that will help me with my ALS research in coming years. The programming I am learning now could really be useful!
My research project focuses on creating software that will allow people to easily build computer animations of chemical molecules. I have spent the past few weeks getting my feet wet with the Python language. The material is incredibly fascinating and I am enjoying learning more about computer programming. I am looking forward to seeing this project progress!
